ISRI is the voice of the scrap recycling industry, an association of more than 1,200 companies that process, broker, and consume scrap commodities.

Many ISRI member companies are family-owned businesses, and a significant number of them have been in continuous operation for 100 years or more. ISRI members range in size from small, one-yard operations to large, publicly held corporations with multiple facilities nationwide and even worldwide. Other ISRI members focus on the business of brokering and trading recyclable materials, consolidating materials from a variety of businesses to expedite the fulfill ment of consumer needs

These unique training, informational and safety videos demonstrate more than "how to do it."  They are designed to work with scrap recycling professionals' training programs to accomplish all tasks "safely -- or not at all."

Each month, ISRI sends to every member, free of charge, a complete guide for a safety meeting with employees. It includes a topic, teacher’s talking points, a handout that can be photocopied, and a roster so that each employee participating can sign in, acknowledging their attendance. Once completed, the entire piece becomes a part of the company’s safety records

Safety is just as manageable as every other element of business. This basic truth is the foundation upon which ISRI's Safety program is built.

The first step is to place safety in all of its forms (workers, drivers, customers, facilities) at the top of the management chart, even above profit.

Though doing so might seem counterintuitive, years of data have shown that profits in fact soar when placed second to safety. A safer workplace is cleaner and better organized, making it more efficient. A healthy workforce is reliable and well-trained. Reduced costs trigger reduced insurance rates. By factoring safety considerations into new installations, one ends up with better-engineered installations. It goes on and on. With the above in mind, the new rallying cry for our industry is, "Safely or Not At All."
