The first step is to place safety in all of its forms (workers, drivers, customers, facilities) at the top of the management chart, even above profit. Though doing so might seem counterintuitive, years of data have shown that profits in fact soar when placed second to safety. A safer workplace is cleaner and better organized, making it more efficient. A healthy workforce is reliable and well-trained. Reduced costs trigger reduced insurance rates. By factoring safety considerations into new installations, one ends up with better-engineered installations. It goes on and on. With the above in mind, the new rallying cry for our industry is, "Safely or Not At All." |
